Mud, Twine & Sticks: Natural Dyer

Home: Virginia, United States

Visit with Mud, Twine & Sticks, to shop and learn how natural dyes are made from plants and the Japanese art of Shibori through demonstrations and a child activity. I create naturally dyed clothing (baby-adult plus sizes), jewelry, and home-goods.

Elizabeth Marcais

Hi, My name is Elizabeth Marcais! I am a local fiber artist who works with Natural Dyes and the ancient Japanese art of Shibori. I have a B.A. in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Ceramics. I began my career selling pottery at festivals and teaching pottery at local studios. I still love clay and you might see that work from me in the future. I also have had the privilege of being a public art teacher for 18 years, before transitioning to being a full-time natural dye artist who sells her work on Etsy (@mudtwinesticks) and local art craft shows. My business name is Mud, Twine & Sticks, as it celebrates my interest in the natural world, the materials I use and my playful nature. Learning is play and play is learning. As artists we play with materials to learn and create. As both an educator and an artist, I love to try new things and experiment. I hope you will come and learn new things with me about Shibori and natural dyeing.
