Melanie Schlosser

Melanie Schlosser is an artist, crafter, and almost-lawyer based in the New York/New Jersey region. She is passionate about environmentalism, which is the focus of most of her art, her legal studies, and her newest project, Pucker Press. It began by sending homemade cards to faraway friends as we shifted our world onto Zoom. Through Pucker Press, she binds together love for friends and family, ourselves, reading, and the environment through an array of upcycled paper goods. Some of her favorite things are arts and crafts, journaling, colors, and chocolate! Lately, Melanie's been enjoying rock climbing and leaning into her spirituality. She is beyond excited to meet you at this Maker Faire!

What Inspired You to Make This?

During the pandemic, I wanted a way to engage with my friends in a physical way that I was missing. Since we were all at home with stores closed, I tried my hand at making greeting cards and sent them out. In my mission of becoming zero-waste/having a circular studio, I realized I could also make bookmarks from leftover paper. I also just love bookbinding and have been doing it for years, so I then incorporated other salvaged boxes from shipping for making journals too. I went to law school for environmental law and feel compelled to share my passion for environmentalism through arts and crafts, a true passion of mine. Making environmentalism tangible and teaching about upcycling and the effects of our actions on the environment are important to me for making the world a slightly better/wholesome/nicer place to be!
