Maker Faire Baton Rouge 2023

Let there be Lasers! And Chainmail.

Home: Louisiana, United States

We will be creating and selling jewelry and dice bags made of chainmail - stainless steel rings woven into intricate designs. We will also be selling objects made using the Library Makerspace's Epilog laser, that all can be personalized.

Axel Ohmstede

Axel Ohmstede is a retired Telecommunication Analyst who got his start as a maker with a sizable legos collection. His enjoyment playing Dungeons & Dragons lead to a curiosity about medieval armor. After a short stint with the Society of Creative Anachronism, a friendly armorer taught him how to make chainmail rings in bulk. Within a month, he had his first chainmail shirt made of all the spare metal coat hangers in his neighborhood. It is now a few decades and more than a million rings assembled later and he still loves knitting mail, be it jewelry for his wife, dice bags for his friends, or the occasional commission for a piece of cos-play armor.
