reDiscover’s Mission is to provide makers with the tools, resources, and confidence to engage in creative reuse and self-expression. We educate youth of all levels of expertise in transforming discarded materials into art, functional objects, and tools for learning. We support one another as hands-on creators, problem-solvers, community stakeholders, and stewards of the Earth.

The way that I take care of myself after long days of teaching and managing reDiscover Center is by sitting in my garden. It's a creation of love by my landlords, who are also landscape artists, and this is the garden that they have created for themselves. It feels like a jungle and is full of plants from their home towns in Mexico and attracts a large number of birds and other animals. I feel at peace and wrapped in a hug when I sit out there and I want to create that same feeling for people when they come to craft with me. I realized that over the past year all of the public makerspaces that I've been creating have had a jungle flair to them, definitely the influence of the garden. I want to push the idea even further and make a tent feel as much like a lush, vibrant, alive, tropical sanctuary as possible. I want to give the gift of peace and calm to the makers of Los Angeles.
